Pandharpur is a well-known pilgrimage town on the banks of Bhima River in Solapur district, Maharashtra, India. The Vitoba temple attracts about a million Hindu pilgrims during the major yatra in the month of Ashad (June – July).
Pandharpur – Sangola was one of the most insufficient road links between two cities in the Maharashtra, and with forecasts suggesting that traffic along it could increase tremendously; it was time to take action to improve the logistics and transportation between the cities.
RKC began work in 2017 to upgrade the entire road to PQC (Pavement Quality Concrete) Road of 31.158 Kms dual carriage way; and upgrading the urban sections to four lanes. It also involved construction of 12 bridges, Toll plaza, water and electrical utilities.
Sourcing Responsibly
RKCIPL tries to source the materials locally and subcontract local contractors to boost the socio economy. Local manufactures were used to source essential products which also helped cut transport emissions. We aim to source products which are natural, high quality, taking into consideration their impact of the environment and people.
For the PQC construction we used 100% artificial sand instead of natural river sand, thus preventing damage to river beds thereby resulting in serious threat of flood or diversion of water flow. The state of the art sand production plant along with washing systems have been installed in Pandharpur.
Community Engagement
RKC’s commitment is to create a positive impact through activities in local communities. During construction our site team conducted various activities for the wellbeing of the community.
- Awareness and training campaigns in the community i.e. Health and Wellbeing, Hygiene Awareness etc.
- Site work placement opportunities to local students.
- Refurbishment of the Vithoba Temple.
